Submissions

Submission Requirements

I would love to see your work and it’s easy to submit.

Simply choose a classic children’s book, or a new bestseller, and show us how you would illustrate the cover. If you aren’t familiar with different fonts, just focus on what you are good at and skip the text. Be thoughtful. The most exciting pieces feature a style that is strikingly different from the original cover and reveal something new about the book’s characters. Your piece doesn’t need to be perfectly polished to wow. Even the loosest sketch can be intriguing, fresh, and inspirational. I’m sorry not every submission can be featured.

Size

Nice and big!  Bigger than 300 x 300.

Let me know how you created your piece. What medium did you use? What inspired you?

Cover Tips for New Artists

When a child or a parent is trying to decide whether to buy a book, a cover makes all the difference. A good cover provokes an emotional reaction and instantly lets the reader know what the book is about. Everyone has their own unique style. That’s why it’s so fun to see a book illustrated again and again. But, there are a few elements that tend to make a book cover work. With practice, you’ll learn the rules…and then break them.

Target your audience.

Identify the emotions you want to evoke in the reader.

Choose a focal object for the illustration. It doesn’t need to be in the center, but it needs to guide the eye.

Select title fonts purposefully.

Create an atmosphere of mystery.

Picture it on the bookshelf. Does it stand out from the other books (in a good way)?
